PASS CHRISTIAN, MISSISSIPPI
Our History
The first "Jazz in the Pass" was held on May 8, 1999 as Pass Christian's contribution to the Coast Tricentennial celebration. Our mission was to show support and appreciation to the community's' heritage. Jazz in the Pass celebrates the historic musical heritage of Capt. John Handy, saxophone; Joe B. Jackson, pianist; Jeannette Salvant Kimball; and the Watson Brothers' Band --- all from this community. The festival grew each year with the potential of becoming a major event.
Our Mission
The "Jazz in the Pass" mission was to continue celebrating our heritage with the emphasis on the joy of music, which is a universal language that instinctively encourages community spirit.
The festival also introduces and encourages students to participate with all types of instruments and music. A continuing vision is to sustain the Jazz Educational Program in the Pass Christian Junior and Senior High Schools; whereby visiting and professional musicians can demonstrate their instruments and provide lectures for the students.
Our Gratitude
The Pass Christian Mayor, The Board of Aldermen, The Harrison County Board of Supervisors, Corporate Sponsors, our many Vendors, our residents and a growing number of enthusiasts from neighboring states who strongly support
"Jazz in the Pass."
Welcome --- in Memory of being under the Oaks for MUSIC and FUN!
